Canon Photo Safari, Gloucester Maritime Heritage Area, Massachusetts

On Saturday, I drove to the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Area in Gloucester, Massachusetts for a Canon Photo Safari with Adam Jones. The photo safari is an opportunity to try out Canon photography equipment and to pick up tips and techniques from a Canon Explorers of Light professional. This photo safari was supported by Hunt’s Photo and Video and the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center.

I was able to try out a Canon EOS 5D 12.8 MP Digital SLR Camera with a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens and some other lenses like the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Lens.

I really liked the 5D. I currently have a Canon EOS-10D 6.3MP Digital SLR Camera.

The 5D is very similar to the 10D in basic function. It was so easy to pick up the 5D and just go shooting. Unlike the 10D, though, the 5D has a full frame sensor. So, no conversion factor on the lenses. This means a wide angle lens really is a wide angle lens on this body.

The lenses I used were nice, but I already have a full bag of lenses. I like my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens a lot. I use it all the time.

I also have a Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM Ultra Wide Angle Lens which I bust out for my wide angle stuff. It would be nice to have the full frame sensor from the 5D to really get that wide angle effect.
